      Revision07-May-2018 JSW
DescriptionT-cell mitogen that stimulates the proliferation of human lymphocytes and mouse splenic T-cells. PHA is a mixture of tetramers consisting of combinations of two subunits, E and L, with different biological activity. E-4 isolectin has low mitogenic activity and high erythroagglutinating activity. L-4 isolectin has high mitogenic and leukoagglutinating activities and low erythroagglutinating activity. Causes agglutination titers of 1:128 in tests that use a 2% solution of type A red blood cells. Inhibited by N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, peptides containing the sequence NANA-D-Gal-(1 → 3,4), GlcNAcα(1 → 2), or Man α(1 → 2)Man.
