      Alternate Names
      • GPC2
Background InformationGlypican-2 (UniProt: Q8N158; also known as GPC2) is encoded by the GPC2 gene (Gene ID: 221914) in human. Glypicans belong to a family of heparan sulfate proteoglycans that are attached to the cell membrane via a GPI-anchor. They interact with multiple ligands, including morphogens, growth factors, chemokines, ligands, receptors, and components of the extracellular matrix through their heparan sulfate chains and core protein. GPC2 is synthesized with a signal sequence (aa 1-23), which is subsequently cleaved off to produce the mature GPC2 (aa 24-554). It also contains a propeptide sequence (aa 555-579) that is removed in the mature form. Glypicans are reported to regulate Wnt/β-catenin signaling and affect cell growth and proliferation. Overexpression of GPC2 is reported in several pediatric cancers. Its higher expression is also shown in neuroblastoma compared to the normal peripheral nerve tissue. GPC2 can modulate Wnt signaling and regulate MYCN in neuroblastoma pathogenesis. Genetically silencing of CPC2 is shown to inhibit neuroblastoma cell growth by suppressing N-Myc expression. Clone CT3 specifically binds to GPC2 in human cancer cells and does not react with normal tissues. It recognizes tumor-associated exons 3 and 10 of GPC2. (Ref.: Li, N., et al. (2020). J. Histochem.
