Background InformationAmyloid Precursor Protein (APP) is expressed in the brain, kidney, heart, and spleen of fetal tissues; it is induced during neuronal differentiation. The most-substantiated role for APP is in synaptic formation and repair; its expression is upregulated during neuronal differentiation and after neural injury. In adult brain, highest expression of APP is found in the frontal lobe of the cortex. Moderate expression is observed in the cerebellar cortex, the posterior perisylvian cortex-opercular gyri and the temporal associated cortex. Defects in APP are a cause of autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease (AD). UP on intracerebroventricular injection of this antibody, A-beta levels significantly decreased in the brain of APPPS1 mouse model of AD. A related antibody, Cat. No. MABN381, Anti-APP-C99, clone mC99(1-7) was raised against a slightly different region of the same APP-C99 protein.
