      Description
OverviewA major aldehyde product formed by peroxidation of ω-6-unsaturated fatty acids that is regarded as a specific marker of lipid peroxidation. Inhibits proliferation and induces differentiation of HL-60 human leukemic cells. Also induces cell death in murine alveolar macrophages and in PC12 cells. An inhibitor of state 3 respiration at micromolar levels. Causes a transient increase in cytosolic Ca2+ and irreversibly inhibits Na+, K+-ATPase activity (IC50 = 120 µM). Acts as a reversible inhibitor of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK).
