      Revision13-September-2007 JSW
DescriptionAn antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing binding of aminoacyl tRNA to the A-site and blocking translocation. Used commonly for selection of the bacterial tetr gene whose product, a 399-amino acid membrane-associated protein, functions in active export of the drug from the cell.
