      DescriptionAnti-phospho-MARCKS (Ser152/156) Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate
      • Protein kinase C substrate, 80 kDa protein, light chain
Background InformationMyristoylated Alanine-Rich C-Kinase Substrate (MARCKS) is a widely expressed substrate of PKC. MARCKS is essential in neuronal development, as mice deficient in it die shortly after birth. Through its basic effector region, MARCKS associates with acidic membrane phospholipids, actin filaments, and calmodulin. Poly (ADP-ribose) also binds the basic effector region, blocking calmodulin binding, membrane association, and phosphorylation by PKC, suggesting that MARCKS may be an effector of the DNA-damage signal transduced by poly (ADP-ribose).

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a substrate for protein kinase C. It is localized to the plasma membrane and is an actin filament crosslinking protein. Phosphorylation by protein kinase C or binding to calcium-calmodulin inhibits its association with actin and with the plasma membrane, leading to its presence in the cytoplasm. The protein is thought to be involved in cell motility, phagocytosis, membrane trafficking and mitogenesis.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P29966 # MARCKS is the most prominent cellular substrate for protein kinase C. This protein binds calmodulin, actin, and synapsin. MARCKS is a filamentous (F) actin cross-linking protein.
SIZE: 332 amino acids; 31555 Da
PTM: Phosphorylation by PKC displaces MARCKS from the membrane. It also inhibits the F-actin cross-linking activity.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P29966 ## Belongs to the MARCKS family.
      Molecular Weight~80 kDa
      Product Usage Statements

Western Blot Analysis: 1:500 dilution of this lot detected phosphorylated MARCKS on 10 μg of EGF treated A431 lysates.
      Usage Statement
      • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
      Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsStable at -20°C in undiluted for up to 6 months from date of receipt. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Do not store in a self-defrosting freezer.
Handling Recommendations: Upon first thaw, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance. Note: Variability in freezer temperatures below -20°C may cause glycerol containing solutions to become frozen during storage.
