Background InformationAspartate aminotransferase, mitochondrial ((mAspAT), also known as Fatty acid-binding protein (FABP-1) or Glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase 2 or Kynurenine aminotransferase 4 or Kynurenine aminotransferase IV or Kynurenine--oxoglutarate transaminase 4 or Kynurenine--oxoglutarate transaminase IV or Plasma membrane-associated fatty acid-binding protein (FABPpm) or Transaminase A, and encoded by the gene name GOT2, plays an essential role in role in amino acid metabolism and facilitates cellular uptake of long-chain free fatty acids. GOT2 is localized to the mitochondrion; however, exposure to alcohol promotes translocation to the cell membrane.
