Red phosphorus must not come into contact with oxidizing substances: Container I. Phosphorus compounds should be oxidized under an inert gas in an efficient hood with the front screen closed. From each gram of phosphorus compound measure out a 100-ml aliquot of 5 % Sodium hypochlorite solution (Cat.No. 105614) containing 5 ml of 50 % Sodium hydroxide solution (Cat. No. 106462) and carefully add the substance solution to be neutralized, a drop at a time, cooling with ice. Add Calcium hydroxide (Cat.No. 102047) and filter off the precipitated phosphates. Precipitate: Container I. Aqueous solutions: Container D.
