A cell-permeable di-2-pyridyl thiosemicarbazone (DpT) based tridentate ligand that displays potent and selective antiproliferative properties in neoplastic cells (IC50 ≤ 0.06 µM in SK-N-MC, SK-Mel-28 and MCF-7 cells) and minimally affects normal cells (IC50 > 25 µM in MRC-5). Prevents the aggressive growth of M109 lung carcinoma in mice without affecting body weight. Shown to mobilize cellular iron effectively, and generate ROS leading to apoptosis.

      Synonyms2,2ʹ-Dipyridyl-N,N-dimethylsemicarbazone
DescriptionA cell-permeable di-2-pyridyl thiosemicarbazone (DpT) based tridentate ligand that exhibits potent and selective anti-proliferative properties in neoplastic cells (IC50 ≤60 nM in SK-N-MC, SK-Mel-28 and MCF-7 cells) with minimal effects on normal cells (IC50 >25 µM in MRC-5). Prevents the aggressive growth of M109 lung carcinoma in mice without affecting their body weight. Its autitumor effects are believed to be linked to activation of caspase-3. Shown to mobilize cellular iron effectively, generating ROS that leads to apoptosis.
