Background InformationMucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation protein 1 (Uniprot: Q9UDY8; also known as MALT lymphoma-associated translocation) is encoded by MALT1 (MLT) gene (Gene ID:10892 ) in human. MALT1 protein shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm and also found in perinuclear structures. It is highly expressed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and detected at lower levels in bone marrow, thymus and lymph node, and at very low levels in colon and lung. MALT1 is a key regulator of various cellular signaling pathways and is primarily associated with immune response and inflammation. Bcl10 and MALT1 (paracaspase) forms a strong and specific complex within the cell and these proteins synergize in the activation of NF-kappaB pathway, which is involved in the regulation of genes related to immune and inflammatory responses. MALT1 is also implicated in the pathogenesis of certain lymphomas and autoimmune diseases, making it a potential target for therapeutic interventions. Its proteolytic activity and interactions with other proteins contribute to its multifaceted functions in cellular signaling and disease processes. (Ref.: Kutzner, K., et al. (2022).
