Detection of human 20S proteasome core subunits by immunoblotting. Sample: Whole cell lysate from human erythrocytes. Primary antibody: Anti-20S Proteasome Core Subunits Rabbit pAb (Cat. No. ST1053) (1:1000). Detection: chemiluminescence.
DescriptionRabbit polyclonal antibody supplied as diluted serum. Recognizes the ~27-30 kDa 20S proteasome core subunits (α5, α7, β1, β5i, and β7).
BackgroundProteasomes are large multi-subunit complexes, that are localized in the nucleus and cytosol, and selectively degrade intracellular proteins. They play a major role in the degradation of many proteins involved in cellular processes such as cell cycling, apoptosis, and proliferation. The human proteasome contains two copies of each of seven different α-type and β-type subunits assembled to form a stack of four seven-membered rings. The α-subunits comprise the outer rings while the β-subunits comprise the inner rings. The β-subunits are believed to be responsible for the proteolytic activity of the 20S proteasome.
