Revision07-September-2007 RFH
DescriptionNative tetrameric catalase from bovine liver. Composed of four identical subunits of ~60 kDa each. Catalyzes the decomposition of H2O2 to H2O and oxygen. Catalase, along with superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase, controls the levels of oxygen-derived free radicals in mammalian cells. Together these molecules may function as a somatic oxidant defense. Prevents apoptosis in cultured rat ovarian follicles.
