Description
Overview

This product has been discontinued.

Antitumor and anti-HIV agent. A pentacyclic triterpene that selectively inhibits human melanoma in cell culture and in animal models. Appears to act specifically on melanoma cells without affecting other types of tumors. The antitumor effects of betulinic acid appear to be associated with the induction of mitochondrial permeability transition pore that triggers apoptosis. Also acts as a potent inhibitor of Hh/Gli signaling pathway inhibitor (IC50 = 32 µM).

DescriptionAnti-tumor and anti-HIV agent. A pentacyclic triterpene that has been shown to selectively inhibit human melanoma in cell culture and animal models. Appears to act specifically on melanoma cells without affecting other types of tumors. The anti-tumor activity of betulinic acid appears to be mediated by the induction of apoptosis. Also acts as a potent inhibitor of Hh/Gli signaling pathway inhibitor (IC50 = 32 µM). Selectively inhibits DNA binding of C/EBPs (IC50 = 13.4, 38, 10.8, 10.7 and 8.0 µM against C/EBPα, C/EBPβ, C/EBPγ C/EBPδ and C/EBPε, respectively).
