DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~40 kDa Nanog protein.
BackgroundNanog is a newly identified homeodomain gene product that directs propagation of undifferentiated embryonic stem (ES) cells and was named after the mythological Celtic land of the eternal youth, Tir Na Nog. Nanog is present in both mouse and human embryonic stem cells, and lacking in differentiated cells. It is restricted to founder cells from which ES cells can be derived. Nanog is important for maintaining the self-renewing properties of mouse embryonic stem cells and is expressed in the cells of the early embryo that are used to derive embryonic stem cells. Current research suggests that Nanog acts independently of another signal transduction pathway important to maintaining the pluripotency of stem cells, which involves the activation of Stat3.
