DescriptionAnti-G3BP1 Antibody
Alternate Names
  • ATP-dependent DNA helicase VIII
  • GAP SH3 domain-binding protein 1
  • GAP binding protein
  • GTPase activating protein (SH3 domain) binding protein 1
  • Ras-GTPase-activating protein SH3-domain-binding protein
  • RasGAP-associated endoribonuclease G3BP
Background InformationG3BP1 (Ras-GTPase activating protein SH3-domain binding protein 1) directly associates with SH3 domains of GTPase activating proteins (GAPs). It was first discovered by its binding to RasGAP. G3BPs have been shown to be involved in a number of mitogenic signaling pathways. G3BP1 is also known to be over expressed in many human cancers (Kim, 2007) and its expression appears to be inversely correlated with PTEN expression (Kim, 2007). Interestingly, G3BP1, along with G3BP2, has been shown to bind to the C-terminus of p53, playing a crucial role in its activity (Kim, 2007). Furthermore, the G3BPs have two traditional RNA binding motifs.

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis gene encodes one of the DNA-unwinding enzymes which prefers partially unwound 3'-tailed substrates and can also unwind partial RNA/DNA and RNA/RNA duplexes in an ATP-dependent fashion. This enzyme is a member of the heterogeneous nuclear RNA-binding proteins and is also an element of the Ras signal transduction pathway. It binds specifically to the Ras-GTPase-activating protein by associating with its SH3 domain. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full-length nature of some of these variants has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq]

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Adapter protein that binds to and probably organizes the subcellular localization of a variety of membrane proteins. May link various receptors to the actin cytoskeleton and the dystrophin glycoprotein complex.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Monomer and homodimer Probable. Interacts with the other members of the syntrophin family SNTA1 and SNTB2; with the sodium channel proteins SCN4A and SCN5A By similarity. Interacts with the viral HTLV-1 TAX protein and with dystrophin protein DMD and related proteins DTNA and UTRN.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane › sarcolemma; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic sideBy similarity. Cell junctionBy similarity. Cytoplasm › cytoskeletonBy similarity. Note= In skeletal muscle, it localizes at the cytoplasmic side of the sarcolemmal membrane and at neuromuscular junctions By similarity.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY:Ubiquitous. Ref.1

DOMAIN: The PH 1 domain mediates the oligomerization in a calcium dependent manner By similarity.

The PDZ domain binds to the last three or four amino acids of ion channels and receptor proteins. The association with dystrophin or related proteins probably leaves the PDZ domain available to recruit proteins to the membrane By similarity.

The SU domain binds calmodulin in a calcium-dependent manner By similarity.

PTM: Phosphorylated by CaM-kinase II By similarity.

SIMILARITY:Belongs to the syntrophin family.

Contains 1 PDZ (DHR) domain.

Contains 2 PH domains.

Contains 1 SU (syntrophin unique) domain.
