Background InformationAmyloid precursor-like protein 2 is encoded by the APLP2 (or APPL2) gene in human and a member of the Amyloid precursor protein (APP) family with APP & APPL1 being the other two members. It contains heparin-, copper- and zinc- binding domains at the N-terminal portion, BPTI/Kunitz inhibitor and E2 domains in the middle, and transmembrane and intracellular domains at the C-terminal region. APLP2 & APP are essential modulators of glucose & insulin homeostasis, as well as of neuromuscular transmission, spatial learning & synaptic plasticity. APLP2 is known to interact with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules and hFe65L.
