Description
Native apo-transferrin from human plasma. Transferrin is a major iron binding serum protein found in human plasma or serum at concentrations of 3 mg/ml. Its concentration correlates with the total iron binding capacity of serum and its level is regulated by the availability of iron (total iron binding capacity: 1.20-1.60 μg/mg). It has bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity and is essential for iron utilization by the hemin-synthesizing reticulocytes. Stored in bone marrow as Tf-bound iron. Has a pI of 5.8.
