Description
Overview	Cell permeable. Shown to have a beneficial effect in cardiovascular diseases and inflammation. Causes elevation of intracellular free Ca²⁺. Inhibits 5-lipoxygenase and reduces thromboxane A₂ production and blood viscosity. Reported to induce apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cell lines and to inhibit liver metastasis.

Description	Fatty acid isolated from microscopic algae. Serves as a precursor for the prostaglandin-3 and thromboxane-3 families. It differs from arachidonic acid by the extra double bond between C₁₇ and C₁₈. Has a beneficial effect in cardiovascular diseases and inflammation. Also acts as an antihyperlipoproteinenic agent. Causes elevations of intracellular free Ca²⁺. Inhibits 5-lipoxygenase and reduces thromboxane A2 production and blood viscosity.
