Background InformationBRG1-associated factor 180 (BAF180) is a subunit of the SWI/SNF-B (PBAF) chromatin remodeling complex, and is known to contain 6 bromo domains, 2 BAH domains, and a single HMG box DNA-binding domain. BAF180 has a critical and active role in the transcriptional activation and repression of specific genes via chromatin remodeling, including genes involved in the development of the heart, thus suggesting a role in mammalian development. Recent studies demonstrate BAF180 to suppress tumorigenesis through its ability to regulate both baseline and signal-dependent p21 transcription by its binding of the p21 promoter. Expression of BAF180 is reported in a wide range of tissues.
