Epifluorescence microscopy is widely used to quantify and characterize bacterial contamination or other autofluorescent particles in industrial and biomedical samples. Through vacuum-driven filtration, serial dilutions of the sample are passed through specially-designed, gridded, membrane filters and counted. In order to eliminate background signal and ensure accurate results, the filter membrane should exhibit low fluorescence.
