Recently, Merck successfully held its 2nd upstream seminar: "Bioproduction with confidence," in Darmstadt, Germany. With over 40 customers representing biopharma, CMOs, engineering and consulting companies, industry experts had the chance to connect with colleagues from all over Europe to learn about innovative strategies in upstream processing.
The topics presented by our speakers highlighted novelties in cell culture process development. In particular, Merck´s innovations in cell culture media, such as modified amino acids and compacted media, provided new ideas on how to simplify biopharmaceutical production.
Additionally, we discussed the development of next generation cell-based vaccines and ways to reduce cost, process complexity and manufacturing times. The program was rounded out by presentations on scaling strategies for implementation of single-use bioreactors from 3 L to 2000 L.
The attendees especially appreciated the visit to our cell culture media production facility and cell culture innovation labs, which provided a live experience of the opportunities to overcome challenges in upstream processing.
The seminar was very well received and based on the positive feedback from attendees, we plan to continue to offer similar upstream seminars in the future. If you are interested in a future seminar, please contact us.
