Merck recently hosted its annual chromatography user group meetings in Washington, D.C. This event, which was broken into two meetings for Protein A affinity and ion exchange chromatography, enabled global end users to not only share best practices, but also identify existing challenges and future trends in this space.
Building on the success of previous forums, both Chromatography User Group Meetings attracted worldwide biotech and biopharmaceutical industry professionals – from R&D to process development and production management. In total, almost 70 customers representing companies from the U.S., Europe and Asia actively participated. During the Protein A affinity User Group Meeting, a broad range of topics concerning purification using ProSep® and Eshmuno® A chromatography resins were discussed including high-throughput screening, evaluation and process development case studies, and column packing best practices at all scales. The Ion Exchange User Group Meeting focused on topics such as improvement of a plasma purification process, case studies of 2-column purification processes and utilization of mechanistic models.
At Merck, it is our goal to provide our end users with a forum in which they can learn from their peers and further grow in the chromatography arena. The strong technical customer presentations during both forums were a tremendous foundation for open and fruitful discussion between the users themselves and Merck. We believe these meetings are an effective technical avenue that allows us to continue to strengthen our peer-to-peer communication and partnership with our global clients and we look forward to next year's meetings to continue this critical discussion.
