Should I filter my acrylamide solution prior to gel casting? | Yes, filtering your acrylamide solution before adding the polymerization activator ammonium persulfate and TEMED will accomplish two things. 1. It will eliminate particulate matter that may interfere with base calling when sequencing or that may create "hot" spots in the gel, and 2. It will aid in degassing, which will promote efficient polymerization of the gel. Products appropriate for this application would be Stericup, Steritop or Steriflip with express membrane. |

Is there a stand for the Steriflip? | Yes. If you would prefer to put the Steriflip unit into a stand when vacuum filtering your sample rather then holding it , you can order catalog number SC50BS001.
While filtering serum through my Steriflip the solution appears to be bubbling what can I do? | Because Steriflip is a closed system, there is a small upstream vent that will bubble air slowly through the solution before it is filtered. If the foaming is an objection, you may purchase SC50FL025 that is a package of 25 non-sterile funnels. The funnel attaches instead of the tube, then you can pour the solution through into the funnel and turn on the vacuum. The solution will be filtered into the receiving tube.
What is Steriflip? | Steriflip is a sterile vacuum-driven device for use with 50 ml centrifuge tubes. The filter unit incorporates Millipore's 0.22um Express (PES) membrane.
What tubes will work with my Steriflip? | The Steriflip comes with one sterile polypropylene 50 ml tube that you filter your sample into, but you must supply your own starting tubes. The unit will fit onto most standard double start (double lead ) 50 ml tubes. Millipore sells these tubes in 100 and 500 packs.

Is the Express membrane surfactant free? | Yes, the Express membrane is surfactant free. It also has a very low extractables specification - less then 1.5% by weight.
Is the Steriflip autoclavable? | No. Steriflips are provided to you pre-sterilized and individually wrapped. The sterilization method is gamma irradiation. |
