Description
Catalogue NumberGF021
Brand Family Chemicon®
Trade Name
  • Chemicon
DescriptionStem Cell Factor Protein, Recombinant human
OverviewStem Cell Factor (SCF) is a hematopoietic growth factor that exerts its activity at the early stages of hematopoiesis. SCF stimulates the proliferation of myeloid, erythroid, and lymphoid progenitors in bone marrow cultures and has been shown to act synergistically with colony stimulating factors. Recombinant human SCF is an 18.4 kDa protein containing 165 amino acid residues corresponding to the soluble secreted form of SCF.

Applications
ApplicationThe Stem Cell Factor (SCF) Protein, Recombinant human, is a hematopoietic growth factor that exerts its activity at the early stages of hematopoiesis.
Application NotesFor most in vitro applications, SCF exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.2 to 20.0 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): Stem cells, BM precursor cells.
Biological Information
PurityGreater than 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per μg (1EU/μg) of SCF.
SourceE.coli
Specific ActivityChemicon's human SCF is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells is <= 2 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of >= 5 x 10e5 units/mg.
Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis gene encodes the ligand of the tyrosine-kinase receptor encoded by the KIT locus. This ligand is a pleiotropic factor that acts in utero in germ cell and neural cell development, and hematopoiesis, all believed to reflect a role in cell migration. In adults, it functions pleiotropically, while mostly noted for its continued requirement in hematopoiesis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P21583 # Stimulates the proliferation of mast cells. Able to augment the proliferation of both myeloid and lymphoid hematopoietic progenitors in bone marrow culture. Mediates also cell-cell adhesion. Acts synergistically with other cytokines, probably interleukins.
SIZE: 273 amino acids; 30899 Da
SUBUNIT: Homodimer, non-covalently linked (Probable).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Isoform 1: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein (By similarity). Note=Also exists as a secreted soluble form (isoform 1 only) (By similarity). & Isoform 2: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein (By similarity).
DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Acts in the early stages of hematopoiesis.
PTM: A soluble form is produced by proteolytic processing of isoform 1 in the extracellular domain.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P21583 ## Belongs to the SCF family.

Usage Statement
  • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsThe lyophilized powder, though stable for a few weeks at room temperature, is best stored at -20°C. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be further diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 2-8°C for 1 week or -20°C for future use. Reconstituted SCF should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
