Description
OverviewA cell-permeable indolylphenylthienopyrimidinone compound that increases mitochondrial content without affecting the cell size (~10 µM). Reduces mitochondrial protein turnover without affecting any known transcriptional programs of mitochondrial biogenesis. Reversibly increases uncoupled respiration in non-dividing cells (~50% increase in 3T3-L1 and HUVEC at 10 µM), but appears to be toxic to dividing cells. Shown to increase the expression of mitochondrial DNA encoded oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) genes without affecting nuclear DNA encoded OxPhos gene expression.
