Description
OverviewContains mainly N-acetylneuraminic acid. GM3 and its derivatives play important roles in immunoregulation and in biosynthesis and metabolism of higher gangliosides. GM3 is reported to inhibit EGF-receptor tyrosine kinase activity in whole cells and plasma membranes, and in detergent micelles. Inhibits protein kinase C activity in both cytosolic and total particulate fractions (IC50 = 100 - 115 µM). Induces the down-modulation of CD4 molecules. Useful as a substrate for neuraminidases. Binds EGF and FGF.
M.W. 1198.5 (based on stearoyl - 18:0).
