Background InformationCA9 (Carbonic anhydrase 9) is a single-pass type I membrane protein belonging to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family. CA9 may be involved in the control of cell proliferation and transformation and appears to be a novel specific biomarker that has been shown to have diagnostic utility in identifying cervical dysplasia and carcinoma. CA9 is primarily expressed in carcinoma cell lines and is found on the surface microvilli and in the nucleus.
