      DescriptionAnti-Flagellar Membrane Glycoprotein 1B (FMG-1B) Antibody, clone 61
      Alternate Names
      • FMG-1B
Background InformationFlagella membrane glycoprotein 1B (UniProt: Q84X68; also known as FMG-1B) is derived from the flagella of single cell green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. FMG-1B is a major membrane glycoprotein in the flagella of single green alga, Chlamydomonas. It is exposed at the flagellar surface and is reported to be the only flagellar protein in contact with the substrate during whole cell gliding motility and microsphere movement. It contains an N-terminal signal sequence, a transmembrane domain (aa 437-4160), and a short cytoplasmic tail of 17 amino acids that extends into the flagellar matrix. Chlamydomonas are reported to exhibit four types of flagella-dependent motilities described as: forward swimming where flagella leads the cell body, a reverse direction swim using a symmetrical sine wave pattern, flagellar surface interaction with substrate to facilitate whole cell gliding, and the intraflagellar transport (IFT) which moves multi-subunit protein complexes from the flagellar base to the tip in an antegrade direction. The anterograde IFT is reported to be powered by the activity of kinesin 2. Although FMG-1B is shown to be distributed along the surface of the flagellum, it also serves as a cargo for IFT machinery.
