A Big Step Forward from Powdered Media

Merck’s traditional dehydrated culture media are based on a unique granulation technology. This ensures products that provide maximum convenience and safety, while meeting the highest industry performance standards as described in ISO 11133. Granulation significantly reduces dust formation, thus minimizing not only the contamination of the working environment: this property also strictly limits the spread of hazardous media components and others which are not commonly regarded as hazardous but may lead to allergic reactions if inhaled by personnel.

All animal components (except some derived from milk) are exclusively sourced from TSE/BSE-free countries and adhere to the highest safety standards. Only premium raw materials are selected to ensure high recovery and growth rates. Merck’s granulated culture media offer excellent wettability, solubility and free-flowing properties, making them much easier to use than traditional powdered media. Granulated culture media are also more homogenous, thereby minimizing component separation and clumping even under warm or humid conditions and prolonging the shelf life of products to up to five years. The granulation process allows the inclusion of many supplements, which eliminates the need to purchase and add these yourself.
