      DescriptionAnti-Perilipin-4, N-term Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Perilipin-4
      • Adipocyte protein S3-12
Background InformationPerilipin-4, also known as PLIN4, or Adipocyte protein S3-12, and encoded by the gene PLIN4/KIAA1881, plays a role in triacylglycerol metabolism in adipocytes and governs the biogenesis of lipid droplets. Perilipin-4 is also necessary for proper adipocyte maturation. Because of its role in lipid droplet formation and their involvement in the formation of macrophagic foam cells, Perilipin 4 and its other family members are seen as key players in atherogenesis : The development of atherosclerotic plaques in the blood vessels. Thus Perilipin-4 and its family members are a focus of much research from metabolic syndrome to vascular disease. Perilipin-4 is a membrane protein found in adipocyte precursors as well as mature fat cells. Interestingly too, certain polymorphims in PLIN4 are associated with height in both males and females and suggests that PLIN4 and its other family members may be involved in general growth and development as well as adipogenesis.
