Description
Catalogue Number07-1548
DescriptionAnti-HDAC11 Antibody
Alternate Names
  • histone deacetylase 11
Background InformationHDAC11 is responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). Histone deacetylation is a marker for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Histone deacetylases act via the formation of large multiprotein complexes. The predominantly nuclear HDAC11, which interacts with HDAC6, is weakly expressed in most tissues, and strongly expressed in brain, heart, skeletal muscle, kidney and testis. Its activity is inhibited by trapoxin, a known histone deacetylase inhibitor.

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis gene encodes a class IV histone deacetylase. The encoded protein is localized to the nucleus and may be involved in regulating the expression of interleukin 10. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Transcript Variant: This variant (1) represents the longer transcript and encodes the longer isoform (1).
Gene Symbol
  • HD11
  • FLJ22237
  • EC 3.5.1.98
Purification MethodProtein G Chromatography
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). Histone deacetylation gives a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Histone deacetylases act via the formation of large multiprotein complexes. Ref.4

Catalytic activity Hydrolysis of an N(6)-acetyl-lysine residue of a histone to yield a deacetylated histone.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Interacts with HDAC6. Ref.4

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Note= Predominantly nuclear.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Weakly expressed in most tissues. Strongly expressed in brain, heart, skeletal muscle, kidney and testis.

MISCELLANEOUS: Its activity is inhibited by trapoxin, a known histone deacetylase inhibitor.

SEQUENCE SIMILARITY: Belongs to the histone deacetylase family.

SEQUENCE CAUTION:The sequence BAB15127.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous termination at position 107. Translated as Gln.

The sequence CAB70712.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Frameshift at positions 177, 198 and 200.
