You may know Merck as a supplier of water purification products to laboratories and research facilities, but we also strive to provide clean drinking water to people around the globe. We recognize water as a basic human need and through donations, partnerships, and state of the art purification and filtration solutions, we help to provide access to potable water for developing countries.

Partnership with Charity: water

Merck funds water programs that support four communities in India and West Africa. These multi-faceted programs include the installation of water filtration systems and ongoing education regarding clean water and hygiene, have provided over 2,000 people over the last five years, access to clean drinking water through rehabilitated wells in community centers and schools.

Water Testing and Disaster Relief in the Philippines

In late 2013, the Islands of the Philippines were severely impacted by a Typhoon. In addition to loss of life and property destruction, much of the drinking water supply became contaminated. Merck is proud of partnering with Water Missions International to donate products from our EZ-Fit™ Manifold line that detect and quantify microbial contamination like e-coli through membrane filtration.

These products ensure that water is clean and safe for consumption. Water Missions International used these products to satisfy the immediate need for drinking water, and continued to test water in hospitals and other community areas to monitor for potential outbreaks of disease.

Giving back to our communities has been a core part of our culture since our founding. Merck has contributed to society, for decades, in ways that reflect our values and priorities as a company.
