Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummarySELPLG is the high affinity counter-receptor for P-selectin on myeloid cells and stimulated T lymphocytes. As such, it plays a critical role in the tethering of these cells to activated platelets or endothelia expressing P-selectin. The organization of the SELPG gene closely resembles that of CD43 and the human platelet glycoprotein GpIb-alpha both of which have an intron in the 5-prime-noncoding region, a long second exon containing the complete coding region, and TATA-less promoters.

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: Q14242 # Binds to P-, E- and L-selectins. The calcium-dependent high affinity interaction with P-selectin mediates the tethering and rolling of neutrophils and T-lymphocytes on endothelial cells.
SIZE: 412 amino acids; 43201 Da
SUBUNIT: Homodimer; disulfide-linked.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed on neutrophils, monocytes and most lymphocytes.
PTM: Displays complex, sialylated and fucosylated O-linked oligosaccharides, at least some of which appear to contain poly-N- acetyllactosamine with varying degrees of substitution. Also N- glycosylated. & Sulfated in the N-terminal region; sulfation is necessary for P-selectin binding.
