OverviewNative renin from human kidney. Secreted by the juxtaglomerular cells. Acts on plasma substrate angiotensinogen to split off inactive decapeptide angiotensin I, which is converted to the active agent angiotensin II. Important enzyme involved in blood pressure control. Increased levels of renin are found during artery constriction, blood loss, low Na2+ levels, and in pregnancy.
