Background InformationEndocytosis is a cellular process that describes macromolecules being taken up through the plasma membrane-derived endosome vesicle. The endocytic pathway contributes to maintaining intracellular homeostasis by transporting various nutrients into the cell and shuttling unneeded components to the lysosome, which functions as a waste disposal system. It has been demonstrated that disruption of endocytosis is related to some neurodegenerative dysfunction and immune diseases. Investigation of the endocytic pathway is therefore of increasing interest to cell biologists and in diverse disease disciplines.
