DescriptionAnti-CFAP43 Antibody, clone 27D5
Alternate Names
  • Cilia- and flagella-associated protein 43
Background InformationCilia- and flagella-associated protein 43 (UniProt: E9Q7R9; also known as CFAP43) is encoded by the Cfap43 gene (Gene ID: 100048534) in murine species. CFAP43, a flagellar protein with six WD repeats, is expressed in testis, lung, brain, oviduct, and nasal cavity. It is detected very early during embryonic development It is involved in the regulation of the beating frequency of motile cilia on the epithelial cells. It is also involved in the formation of flagellar axoneme organization and function during spermatogenesis. Mutations in Cfap43 gene have been linked to male infertility. Any malfunction of motile cilia, resulting from defective CFAP43, cause a variety of developmental defects in humans and animal models. These defects may also include impaired mucociliary clearance of airways and hydrocephalus. Cfap43 knockout mice (-/-) exhibit dilation of the third and lateral ventricles. (Ref.: Rachev, E. (2020).
