DescriptionNative γ-globulin from rabbit serum. Immunoglobulins (Igs) are glycoproteins found in serum and tissue fluids of all mammals. Some Igs act as cell surface receptors and others are antibodies that travel in the blood or lymph. Ig molecules have two functional regions, one of which binds antigens and another which controls effector functions, such as binding to host cells. Structurally, Igs have two identical heavy polypeptide chains and two identical light polypeptide chains that are linked by disulfide bonds. The heavy chains determine an Ig's class and subclass (isotype). Most higher mammals have five different classes of immunoglobulins: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE. The Calbiochem® immunoglobulins are rigorously analyzed for purity and identity. Most are tested by using immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis and SDS-PAGE.
