DescriptionMouse monoclonal antibody purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and DEAE column chromatography. Recognizes the ~240 kDa α-subunit of intracellular and plasma membrane-associated fodrin.
BackgroundFodrin is a spectrin-like cytoskeletal protein found in non-erythroid cells and is comprised of two subunits, α and β (~240 kDa and ~235 kDa, respectively). It mediates the association of actin filaments with the plasma membrane and may thus be involved in maintenance of cell shape and stabilization of membrane structure. Fodrin's susceptibility to tyrosine phosphorylation and its interaction with the lymphocyte transmembrane protein tyrosine phosphatase CD45 suggest that it plays an important role in signal transduction during lymphocyte activation.
