      • Tetratricopeptide repeat protein 23-like
      • FLJ25439
Background InformationTetratricopeptide repeat protein 23-like (UniProt: Q6PF05; also known as FLJ25439, TTC23L) is encoded by the TTC23L gene (Gene ID: 153657) in human. TTC23L is a novel D-box containing cytokinesis associated protein that is present in very low levels in most cell types. It exhibits a dynamic subcellular localization during the cell cycle. In prophase stage it is detected on split centrosomes. It translocates to the mitotic spindles during metaphase and in early anaphase and subsequently to the midbody and cleavage furrow in late anaphase. TTC23L contains two tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR)-like motifs (aa 168-201 and 261-294), three D-boxes (aa 221-224, 228-231, and 331-334), and a nuclear export sequence (aa 217-226). Over-expression of TTC23L is shown to induce midbody arrest and retards mitosis during cell cycle progression. Its over-expression is also reported to promote cellular tetraploidization and induces endoplasmic reticulum stress response that protects tetraploids from apoptotic cell death. Three isoforms of TTC23L have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. (Ref.: Pan, TL., et al. (2014). Cell Cycle 14(8); 1174-1187).
