DescriptionAmmonium sulfate purified (50%) mouse monoclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~38 kDa syaptophysin protein.
BackgroundSynaptophysin is a ~38 kDa integral membrane protein on synaptic vesicles. This protein consists of four transmembrane domains, with its amino- and carboxyl-terminus facing the cytoplasm. Due to its transmembrane domain structure, synaptophysin has been postulated to be a gap junction-like protein as voltage-dependent channel activity is seen when synaptophysin hexamers are reconstituted into lipid membranes. Physiological evidence for synaptophysin’s role in secretion includes its involvement in calcium-dependent glutamate secretion in Xenopus oocytes injected with rat cerebellum mRNA.
