DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~75 kDa matriptase protein.
BackgroundMatriptase (MT-SP1, ACC. No. NP_068813), a type II membrane serine protease, may play important roles in cell migration and tumor cell metastasis. It is a mosaic protein with broad spectrum cleavage activity and two potential regulatory modules. Matriptase can convert hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor to its active form, which can then activate c-Met tyrosine phosphorylation. Furthermore, protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR2) and enzymatically inactive single-chain uPA (pro-uPA) were identified as substrates of matriptase. Matriptase may regulate PAR2 mediated functions such as inflammatory responses, cell adhesion, and uPA-dependent tumor cell invasion and metastasis. The expression of matriptase is associated with a more invasive phenotype.
