      • Bone/cartilage proteoglycan I
      • Biglycan
      • PG-S1
      • Pro-Biglycan
Background InformationBiglycan (UniProt P21810; also known as Biglycan proteoglycan, Bone/cartilage proteoglycan I, Dermatan sulphate proteoglycan I, PG-S1, Small leucine-rich protein 1A) is encoded by the BGN (also known as DSPG1, PGI, SLRR1A) gene (Entrez Gene ID 633) in human. Biglycan is a pericellular matrix proteoglycan structurally related to two other small proteoglycans, decorin and fibromodulin. Biglycan and decorin are thought to be the result of a gene duplication. Decorin contains one attached glycosaminoglycan chain, while biglycan contains two chains, and therefore the name biglycan. Biglycan is involved in collagen fibrils assembly and muscle regeneration. Biglycan is essential for the assembly of dystrophin-associated protein complex, and interacts with several proteins linked to muscular dystrophy, including alpha-dystroglycan, alpha- and gamma-sarcoglycan and collagen VI. Biglycan is initially translated as a preproprotein with an N-terminal signal peptide (aa1-19) and propeptide (aa20-37) sequence. Sequential removal of the signal peptide and the propeptide sequence produces probiglycan and mature biglycan, respectively.

      Applications
ApplicationAnti-Pro-Biglycan Antibody is an antibody against Pro-Biglycan for use in Immunohistochemistry, Western Blotting.
      Key Applications
      • Immunohistochemistry
      • Western Blotting
Application NotesWestern Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected Pro-Biglycan in BMP1 treated recombinant protein (von Marschall, Z., and Fisher, L.W. (2010). Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 391(13):1374-1378).
      Biological Information
ImmunogenLPH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the signal and propeptide of human Pro-Biglycan.
ConcentrationPlease refer to lot specific datasheet.
      HostRabbit
SpecificityThis antiserum recognizes only the biglycan preproprotein (368aa) and probiglycan (349aa), but not the mature biglycan (331aa) lacking the N-terminal signal and propeptide sequence. This polyclonal antiserum is also known by LF-104.
