      Alternate Names
      • Forkhead box protein K2
      • Cellular transcription factor ILF-1
      • FOXK1
      • Interleukin enhancer-binding factor 1
      • FOXK2
Background InformationForkhead box protein K2 (UniProt Q01167; also known as FOXK2, Cellular transcription factor ILF-1, Interleukin enhancer-binding factor 1) is encoded by the FOXK2 (also known as ILF, ILF-1, ILF1) gene (Gene ID 3607) in human. FOXK2 is a transcription factor involved in cell proliferation and survival. FOXK1 and FOXK2 belong to the family of Fox transcription factors characterized by the forkhead DNA-binding domains. However, FOXK1 and FOXK2 can be distinguished from other Fox transcription factors by the presence of the forkhead-associated (FHA) domains. FOXK2 interacts with BRCA1-associated protein 1 (BAP1) through the FHA domain in a BAP1 Thr493 phosphorylation-dependent manner. BAP1 in turn recruits HCF-1, thereby forming a ternary complex at the FOXK2 target genes sites, where BAP1 represses FOXK2 target genes expression in a BAP1 DUB activity-dependent manner.
