Description
OverviewAn antibiotic that acts as a potent inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, thus suppressing Ras farnesylation. Inhibitor of myoblast fusion. Also may induce bone morphogenic protein-2 (BMP-2). Causes cell cycle arrest in late G1 phase.
This is an inactive form which may require activation for use with isolated cells depending upon the application. To activate, treat with NaOH in ethanol and then neutralize to pH 7.2.

To activate, treat with ethanol solution with 1 N NaOH and then neutralize with 1 N HCl to pH 7.2 (see Keyomarsi, K . et al. 1991).
