Background InformationDDX4 (Vasa or MVH) is a member of the DEAD family of proteins and is a probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase. DDX4 (Vasa) proteins are mostly localized in testicular germ cells in the cytoplasm of spermatocytes. DDX4 (Vasa) is a high-copy extragenic suppressor gene. DDX4 (Vasa) is shown to be significantly decreased in spermatozoa of men that are infertile and may have an important role in male fertility.
