DescriptionAnti-Atg18 (WIPI-2) Antibody, clone 2A2
Alternate Names
  • WD repeat domain phosphoinositide-interacting protein 2
  • WIPI-2
  • WIPI49-like protein 2
Background InformationAtg18, also known as WIPI-2, is involved in autophagy by regulating the assembly of mulitprotein complexes by presenting a 7-bladed propeller structure for interactions with phospholipids. Atg18 is a mammalian effector of PtdIns3P and is ubiquitously expressed in a variety of cell lines. Studies show that Atg18 is recruited to early autophagosomal structural formation along with Atg16 and ULK1, and Atg18 is required for the formation of LC3-positive autophagosomes.

Antibody TypeMonoclonal Antibody
Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryWD40 repeat proteins are key components of many essential biologic functions. They regulate the assembly of multiprotein complexes by presenting a beta-propeller platform for simultaneous and reversible protein-protein interactions. Members of the WIPI subfamily of WD40 repeat proteins, such as WIPI2, have a 7-bladed propeller structure and contain a conserved motif for interaction with phospholipids (Proikas-Cezanne et al., 2004 [PubMed 15602573]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008].
Gene Symbol
  • WIPI2
Purification MethodProtein G Purified
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Probable early component of the autophagy machinery being involved in formation of preautophagosomal structures and their maturation into mature phagosomes in response to PtdIns3P. May bind PtdIns3P.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Preautophagosomal structure membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side. Note: Enriched at preautophagosomal structure membranes in response to ptdIns3P.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Ubiquitously expressed (at protein level). Highly expressed in heart, skeletal muscle and pancreas. Expression is down-regulated in pancreatic and in kidney tumors. SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the WD repeat SVP1 family.

Contains 3 WD repeats.
Molecular Weight~49 kDa observed.
6 isoforms exist with molecular weights ranging from 42 kDa to 48 kDa.
