DescriptionAnti-Actin Antibody, clone 5-16 H1C8
Alternate Names
  • ACT1
Background InformationActin-1 (UniProt: P0CJ46) is encoded by the ACT1 (also known as AAC1, At2g37620, E13M22.12) gene (Gene ID: 818339) in Arabidopsis thaliana (Mouse-ear cress). Actins are highly conserved globular multi-functional proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and are ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells. They are essential component of cell cytoskeleton and play an important role in cytoplasmic streaming, cell shape determination, cell division, organelle movement and extension growth. At least six different actin types have been reported in mammals. Although actins show about 90% overall sequence homology, isoforms do show spatial, temporal, and tissue-specific expression patterns and only 50-60% homology is found in their 18 N-terminal residues. Actin 1 is considered as one of the reproductive actins. In plants, it is preferentially expressed in mature pollen, pollen tubes, young embryo sac, and organ primordia and little or no reproductive-gene expression is detected in vegetative organs, such as root, stems, leaves, sepals and petals.
