Description
OverviewInduces the reversion of transformed phenotypes of v-H-ras-transformed NIH 3T3 cells at low concentration (12.5 µM). This finding has been attributed to the inhibition of MAP kinase activity. Inhibits the proliferation of malignant tumor cells by G2/M arrest and induces morphological differentiation.

Revision13-March-2009 RFH
Synonyms4ʹ,5,7-Trihydroxyflavone
DescriptionA plant flavonoid that reverses the transformed phenotypes of various ras-transformed cells, apparently due to inhibition of mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase-associated signal transduction pathways. Treatment of v-H-ras-transformed NIH 3T3 cells with apigenin (12.5 µM) has been shown to induce dephosphorylation of p44mapk and reduction in MAP kinase activity. Has also been reported to inhibit the proliferation of malignant tumor cells by G2/M arrest and to induce morphological differentiation.
