DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~53 kDa p53 protein phosphorylated on Ser15.
Backgroundp53 tumor suppressor proteins play a key role in cellular defense against DNA damaging agents. p53 is phosphorylated at multiple sites in vivo and by several different protein kinases in vitro. DNA damage results in the phosphorylation of p53 at Ser15, leading to the reduced interactions of p53 with its negative regulator, the oncoprotein MDM2. p53 can be phosphorylated by ATM, by ATR, and by the DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) at Ser15. This impairs the ability of MDM2 to bind p53 and promotes both the accumulation and functional activation of p53 in response to DNA damage.
