Recombinant, rat glial derived neurotrophic factor expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells. Native GDNF exists as a disulfide homodimeric glycoprotein and is a novel member of the TGF-β superfamily. Titrate the protein for optimal results in individual systems. Immbolized rrGFRa/Fc at 2 µg/ml (100 µl/neu) can bind GDNF at a linear range of 0.1-10 ng/ml.

SynonymsrrGDNF, Glial Derived Neurotrophic Factor
DescriptionRecombinant, rat glial derived neurotrophic factor expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells. GDNF is a recombinant rat protein whose DNA sequence was inserted in a baculovirus expression vector and expressed in Sf 21 insect cells. The mature rat GDNF is a disulfide linked dimeric protein containing two 134 amino acid with a predicted molecular weight of 15 kDa for the monomer. Useful for proliferation studies. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) was initially isolated based upon its ability to maintain embryonic midbrain dopaminergic neuron survival in vitro, and additional in vivo studies have provided support for the role of GDNF as a trophic factor in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. GDNF is structurally related to the TGF-β superfamily, and has been shown to interact with the GDNF receptor (GDNFRα). GDNFRα is associated with the cell membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage, and together with Ret forms a functional receptor complex.
